5 Content Ideas for Your Website

Everyone knows that content is the most important part of your website. Even if you are a photographer, search engine algorithms like Google look for content to learn about you and place you somewhere in search results for any number of keywords. The question is: How do you keep coming up with new content? Here are five easy ways that you can create new content for your website.

1. Answer Questions

One of the smartest ways to create content on your website is to answer questions that others have asked about your business. It could be defining terms that you use, explaining a difficult concept, exploring a new way of thinking about things, or giving examples that can help someone understand the ins and outs of your business.

Your website is your billboard to the entire world. It speaks specifically about your business and tells the world what type of business you run, what type of person you are, and what they can expect if they work with you. So, give them all you’ve got – answer their questions honestly and let them know that while you may not have all the answers, you really are an expert in what you DO know.

2. Look at Websites from Others in Your Industry

You may have an idea in your head of what you want your website to look, feel, and sound like to others. I would encourage you, however, to do some research and see what others are doing.

You can learn so much about how to do business online by looking at what others are doing.

You will learn some things and get some great ideas, and you also will see some things that you don’t like. This is all about learning and growing.

Of course, with the great ideas that you find, you can then create your own content. Never copy content from another website or you could get into legal trouble, and it’s also very bad for getting your site ranked.

3. Include a Page for Each Service

Regardless of your industry or niche, you have some specific areas where you can help people. These might be services, products, or both. You can write pages on your website going into great detail about what you do for each of these things.

For example, here at Capstone, we have worked with a lot of sleep consultants. Rather than have one “services” page that covers every age and type of sleep consulting you do, consider separate pages for each one. A page for newborn sleep consulting, another page for toddler sleep consulting, and another page for school-age sleep consulting. As a sleep consultant, you would handle each of these age groups differently as you help with sleep issues.

By creating new content about each one, you are doing two things: 1) providing more expert content on your website for your viewers, and 2) making it easier for your website to be found in search engines.

4. Write What’s on Your Heart

Sometimes, you just need to sit down and start writing. In spite of the fact that writing is good for conversions and marketing, it’s also very therapeutic. We may be going through a rough time in our practice, and it’s okay to be real and share some of the frustrations you are experiencing. People appreciate knowing that while you are a business owner, you are a real person with real feelings.

None of us have all the answers, and that’s okay. I have solved many problems in my business and in my life by writing. As you write, you may find the solutions to issues, or you may realize that you don’t have a problem at all. Writing brings perspective, and once you’ve written, you may realize that this information can really help your clients. On the other hand, you may realize that things really aren’t so bad after all.

5. Provide Helpful Information, Videos, Links, and Tutorials

The Internet has provided us with unlimited resources about almost every topic. As you search for topics online and run across great information, share those websites with your followers.

Found a great YouTube video that answers questions your clients ask all the time? Share it with others. Links to other websites will help your website rank higher because Google loves to see lots of backlinks.

Create a tutorial or air a live video on Facebook where you answer questions about your industry. Take away the mystic of your profession and put yourself out there as a real, authentic person who cares. Step outside the box by having an interview with one of your customers. Let your imagination go wild and do what feels best for your business and your customers.

Creating Content is Necessary

While some build their websites and let it go, I encourage you to keep coming up with content for your website. If you aren’t interested in writing, your site still needs content to rank and to get people interested in what you do.

You have solutions to problems, and by creating content, you can let others know how you can help. Content is an extension of you and your business, so get busy today coming up with a content plan, and if you need help, reach out and I’ll do my best to get you on the right path.
